Drinks International: Little Beats Meat

Meat was ranked the 38th best bar in the world by London-based Drinks International magazine. The Prohibition-era-inspired Butchertown bar was one of only 12 U.S. watering holes to make the list. Meat is hosting a press conference to celebrate the honor on Thursday. Expect more coverage, because, hey, free drinks.

From Drinks International's "The World's 50 Best Bars 2012":

For starters, the name o this place is awesome – unless you're a vegetarian. But let's pretend no one is and just salivate a bit. As with any self-respecting Kentucky drinking den, bourbon makes a healthy contribution to the Prohibition-style venue.he bar is located above an establishment with another great name: The Blind Pig, a gastropub.
The eatery also prides itself on its wine and beer selection and it's lucky for Kentucky that one of the Blind Pig's operators, Jeremy Johnson, has a stake in Meat. Sorry.
As Drinks International's write up provides no guidance about ordering from Meat's menu of 30 original cocktails, your editor will step up: go with the Devil's Handshake (Bulleot bourbon, Laird's bonded applejack, yellow chartreuse and Regan's no. 6 bitter).
