LEO Weekly's Robin Garr sung the praises of Shady Lane Café, supplementing his ditty with a 90 rating on his Louisville Hot Bytes site:
A grilled cheese sandwich significantly exceeded the iconic lunch-counter version, with your choice of cheese (my choice, sharp cheddar) expertly grilled on crisp, textured multi-grain bread. It was delicious with Shady Lane's take on tomato soup, a fresh, simple puree of tomatoes and basil. Another soup, black bean, could have passed for chili with its thick, stick-to-your-ribs texture and haunting scents of cumin and chili spice. [LEO Weekly]
The Louisville Courier-Journal's Marty Rosen declared Cake Flour "very good," giving it three out of four stars:
Cake Flour's roasted veggie sandwich ($8) packs more flavor and aroma into a single bite than you might think possible. It starts, of course, with the bakery's own house-made white bread; squeezed between those slices you'll find a smear of Kalamata tapenade, roasted bell peppers — red and yellow — and baby portobello mushrooms that have soaked in a wash of balsamic vinegar. It's a colorful, savory delight — and, like every sandwich, it comes with your choice of fresh fruit or a gem-like salad of colorful mixed greens.[Louisville Courier-Journal]·All Week in Reviews [~ELOU~]
