Avalon Property Sold, El Camino Construction To Begin

Yesterday the owners of Silver Dollar closed on their deal to buy the former Avalon property at 1314 Bardstown Road, completing a major step towards opening El Camino in the spot.

"We're looking at an 85 day build-out," El Camino co-owner Shawn Cantley said. "Add to that about 15-30 days both before and after for permitting, licensing, etc. We're hoping to get started with demo within a week or two."

El Camino will be "a California beach inspired restaurant with garage doors opening right onto Bardstown Road," WAVE 3 reported. "The sale price of the property was nearly $1.8 million. The entire Avalon property will be gutted."

Progress on El Camino has been quicker in the virtual realm though: it's already has a Facebook Fan Page and landing page for its website. Cantley plans on having an introduction on the site online in the next few days.

"Unfortunately, we're going to have to wait until we're a little closer to opening before we say too much about the finer details of what we'll be doing, but I'm happy to talk about the concept now," Cantley said.

If you can get past the line, "while the reasons for the unique eatery's [Avalon's] demise, may never be known," (um, it's kinda well known), WAVE 3's video showing the inside of the old Avalon is worth a watch (empties!):
