Wagner's Pharmacy, Tuesday, 9:45 a.m., Derby Week

Welcome to our photo series Eater Scenes, where Eater photographers visit some of the city's great restaurants to capture them at a certain, and very specific, point in the day. Today, Wagner's Pharmacy.

Across the street from Churchill Downs's backside, Wagner's Pharmacy pulls off both authentic and touristy. It's probably one of the only places in the country that sells Viagra, horse liniment and pimento cheese sandwiches (purchased together, the three make for a helluva party).

This week, it's packed with travelers to Louisville, hoping to get a little Derby flavor in between the morning workouts and the afternoon's live races. Last year, in the late morning on a random weekday though, diners chatted while the TV news was on mute as segments aired on war and murders. Once a story started to air on a jockey (you can guess which one) facing domestic violences charges, it was the diners who were on mute while the TV was cranked up.
