Less than a month after being named the executive chef of St. Charles Exchange, Tyler Powell has left for Silver Dollar. Jonathan Schwartz has moved from Silver Dollar to El Camino, which has the same ownership group and is set to open in mid-August.
"Larry [Rice, Silver Dollar and El Camino's co-owner] and Tyler have worked together in the past and have remained good friends," Silver Dollar and El Camino's co-owner, Shawn Cantley, said via email. "We expect the Silver Dollar menu will stay intact initially, but for Tyler to start putting his own stamp on it as he gets comfortable in our kitchen. Tyler is a really talented dude, and we're going to give him the freedom to let that talent shine through within the context of the concept."
A representative from St. Charles Exchange was emailed at 9:11 a.m., asking about the restaurant's plans for a new chef. This article will be updated with any responses. Before taking over the kitchen from Patrick McCandless, Powell had been St. Charles Exchange's sous chef. UPDATE 11:48 a.m. St. Charles Exchange is in the process of interviewing for a new executive chef.
As for Schwartz, "we want to let him focus entirely on that [El Camino's] menu for the next 3 1/2 months leading up to the opening," Cantley said.
