Inside the Yet-to-Open El Camino

El Camino has been one of the city's most anticipated openings since it was first announced last year: the owners of the Silver Dollar's new place would be serving "authentic Mexican street food" and "artisanal classic tiki drinks" set to early surf music in the old Avalon spot. Oh that patio!

It took longer than expected for El Camino's owners to finalize their purchase of the property though: a deal was reached in early February and was formalized on Feb. 28. Construction of El Camino, beginning with the tearing down of almost everything Avalon, started on April 29.

"El Camino is projected to open the second week of August," said co-owner Shawn Cantley via email. "The space is completely gutted and opened up now. We've already run into some challenges, but I think it's going to be a really cool space when we're finish."
