Celebrate Almost Bastille Day at La Coop; Haymarket Whiskey Bar Renovates

New, 2 comments

NULULa Coop: Bistro à Vins is offering a three-course prix fixe menu July 9–13 in honor of Bastille Day (which is July 14, according to Google). Paddlefish caviar and heirloom tomatoes are two of the local ingredients chef Bobby Benjamin is featuring. $50 per person, reservations at 502 410-2888. [EaterWire]

NULUHaymarket Whiskey Bar's Matthew Landan reports his East Market Street spot will be undergoing some major changes in the run up to the Forecastle Festival (July 12-14):

We have just signed a deal with Shine Contracting (builders of the Silver Dollar) to have them build a new 30' long bar in the front room. The bar will be made of bourbon barrel staves, reclaimed wood, copper and 2" thick locally made glass. The glass sections will be illuminated by high powered LED lighting that will be like no other bar in the city. This is a significant renovation of the room and the project is estimated to cost at least 12,000$. It is self financed.

With this expanded bar space we are going to bring back our espresso service from the old DCE [Derby City Espresso, Landan's former business at that location] days and add a new menu of coffee/whiskey cocktails. In addition we have plans to increase the number of draft beer selections offered as well as increase the number of whiskies we have on the menu from more than 100 to more than 150 in the coming weeks and months...

We are also getting ready to celebrate the release of the new Urban Bourbon Trail Passport. We are now the only "typical top-shelf dive bar" on the trail. In fact we are the only 'bar' period that isn't attached to either a restaurant or a hotel.[EaterWire]
