Andrew McCabe Is Leaving Proof for Rye

Proof on Main's chef de cuisine Andrew McCabe is leaving for Rye on Market.

The Eater Young Gun semi-finalist will join Rye's executive chef Tyler Morris, head chef Joe Banet and sous chef Aaron Roberts in a not-yet-named position on Sept. 1. Morris will continue to oversee Rye's kitchen, according to general manager Erin MacDonald, but will be focusing on Atlantic No. 5. MTK Productions, owner of Rye, is opening that food, coffee and sundries spot at 605 W. Main St. next month.

McCabe did not respond to requests for comment.

MacDonald said, "Joe Banet will be the head of the kitchen at Rye. Andrew will be working all stations and prep at Rye."

Rye on Market released this statement regarding hiring McCabe:

Rye is excited to have Andrew (McCabe) join the team. As it relates to hiring we do not recruit or poach employees, but allow potential hires to come to us. Andrew approached our Head Chef, Joe Banet, about a position. After a few interviews, Andrew exposed himself as a great candidate. It was great timing with the departure of Eleanor Watkins, who is heading to Europe to study food. Andrew should be a great fit teaming up with Executive Chef, Tyler Morris, Head Chef, Joe Banet, and Sous Chef, Aaron Roberts as the newest member of our team.

Proof on Main's executive chef Levon Wallace declined to comment.

Previously, McCabe had been a chef at Harvest, Le Relais and Chicago's Blackbird.
