Executive chef Reed Johnson has left Against the Grain. Johnson's last day at the downtown brewpub was Sept. 21 according to ATG managing member Sam Cruz.
"Reed was an integral part of the inception and development of Against the Grain and we are very grateful that," Cruz said. "However, as we grow and he is to grow professionally, we deemed it best that we move in a different direction for our executive chef.
Reed was asked about his plans via a Facebook message at 10:30 a.m. This article will be updated should he respond. A graduate of Sullivan University, Reed previously worked at The Back Door and Bluegrass Brewing Company, according to his Facebook profile. UPDATE Sept. 27, 8:02 p.m. Johnson also worked at NABC Bank Street Brewhouse with then-executive chef Josh Lehman and for 4.5 years at Proof on Main.
Here are Cruz's comments in their entirety:
Reed Johnson is no longer our executive chef. We (Reed and Against the Grain) have decided that it is mutually in our best interests to go our separate directions. Reed was an integral part of the inception and development of Against the Grain, and we are very grateful that. However, as we grow and he is to grow professionally, we deemed it best that we move in a different direction for our executive chef. That being said, we are going to pursue filling the position with calculation and precision, as we are not just an ordinary brewpub. When the position is filled, we will be more than happy to forward any questions to the executive chef at that time.
