Cast-Iron Casting Call

Summer just started, but the Kentucky State Fair folks are already thinking about their Gourmet Garden and the Cast-Iron Chefs competition, which is held at 1:30 p.m. every day of the Kentucky State Fair in the South Wing A Lobby. Traditionally, the Kentucky Beef Producers reveal "surprise ingredients" (unsurprisingly, one is always beef) that two chefs must use to create an entrée in 30 minutes or less. Taste, presentation and creativity of dishes are evaluated by three audience members selected as judges, with the chef earning the most points declared the winner and presented with a blue ribbon.
