Irma Kaelin Raque puts on a cheeseburger hat and insists her family still gets to claim credit for creating the cheeseburger right here in Louisville. She says her mother and father, Carl and Peg Kaelin, came up with the new menu item, after making cheese sandwiches for local school kids. Though admitting "It's very possible that someone else had already put cheese on a hamburger" before the Kaelin's, Raque tells WDRB the family still wins because "we started talking about it."
