8 Downtown New Albany Restaurants Worth the Trip

View as Map

Casino gambling, strippers with unadorned areolas and Theatair X (those holes between the video booths are for ventilation damn it, it gets stuffy in there) might be the best known reasons for venturing into Southern Indiana. But New Albany is getting hip. Sure, traveling there can still be arduous, what with the rickety bridges, rising river waters and the locals (called Indians) inundating guests with boasts about their superior collegiate basketball team. But these eight downtown New Albany restaurants demand a visit. [H/T for the Left Right Bank perspective to Tabitha H., Tony S. and Roger B. (full disclosure: Mr. B owns a restaurant mentioned herein, but its quality guaranteed inclusion even before he was asked to share his insight)]

Feast BBQ

This July 2012 opening quickly earned praise as one of Kentuckiana's top BBQ options (no small feat).

NABC Bank Street Brewery

Sure, you can get New Albanian's beers at many area bars and restaurants, but you'll need to visit its Bank Street Brewery to sample the pomme frites. Also, check out its Sunday brunch.

DP UpDogs

Sure, the name sounds like a sophisticated sexual maneuver, but this tight spot keeps it simple, focusing on hot dogs and ice cream.

Habana Blues

This tapas restaurant was so successful, it migrated eastward, opening a second spot on Hurstborne Parkway.

The Exchange Pub + Kitchen

It recently changed both its name and address, but its gastropub fare and smart beer selection kept its following intact.

Dragon King's Daughter

So this Asian fusion restaurant probably won't open until next week. But the success of its Bardstown Road spot means expectations are high (and likely will be met).

Toast On Market

Perfect for Louisvillians looking for a little variety in their brunch but not willing to give up Toast's menu.

River City Winery

A winery in Indiana? Go first, judge later. (Yes, usually bloggers do it the other way.)
